A guide to getting the most out of your nationals experience.

Here is a quick guide for all the travelling players who want to get the most of your nationals week experience.  Here are some things we think you shouldn’t miss and some experiences you’ll be glad you took in while you are here.

If your driving from the mainland stop in the Sackville, NB course (Beechhill park).  It’s seconds off the highway and the first public basket course in the Maritimes.  It really is where this whole experience began and to top it all off it’s a fun course to boot.  On Tuesday night it will play host to Nate Perkins’ workshop. When you leave Sackville head for the confederation bridge, a marvel of engineering and the fixed link that connects the mainland to island.  Take a minute to stop at Cape Jourimain http://capejourimain.ca/en/ before you cross.

Once you arrive safely on the island head to the Hand Pie company (1788 route 115).  It is on the road to Huck-it and delicious choice for lunch or a mid round snack.  After your belly is full head to Huck-it and play a round on the islands’ newest course.  Bug spray is encouraged here if you haven’t found your ‘inner  bug Zen’, and even if you have you might want to still pack it in the side of your bag.

After you leave Huck-it head for Kinkora and have a proper lunch (or supper) at O’Shea’s (47 Anderson Rd).  It’s on the way to Hillcrest and you will want to have a full tank of energy when you attempt to conquer (arguably) Canada’s best course.  We suggest playing 2 rounds, one from the red tees and one from the blue, as each course layout offers something special.

Now that you’re on the road again you might be craving a little down time.  Stop in at the PEI brewing company (assuming you are over 19) either at their creamery location or downtown Charlottetown.  Take some time to hang out on a beech somewhere, either at your cottage or any public beach the province has to offer.  Having a full or half day where you do nothing but explore the sand flats and swim in the salt water is a must.

At some point when you get your energy back head into Charlottetown and rent a bike from MacQueens bike shop (430 Queen st) and ride around this lovely city.  Stop and talk to people, maritimers love that!  take a ride through Victoria park, roll past the waterfront, and eventually end up at Hunter’s Ale house (or the factory) for a great bite to eat and a large glass of refreshments.  If you feel like live music check out the beer gardens or, if you’re in the dancing mood, BG’s.

If you have the time and want to try something a little more adventurous how about an escape room?  Room Escape Cavindish would love to hear from you, give them a call to book a room, 902 360 7666.

Take your time and go slow.  We are happy you made the trip and we want you to make the most of it while you are here.  There are lots of other gems to discover and the best way to find out what those are is to just be in this place.
