Hi, my name is John Ansara. I started playing this sport very casually around 2005-2006 in Toronto, ON. So, if you do the math, it would look like I’ve been playing for almost ten years, but its actually only been two.
You see, when I first started playing I had no idea that there was an organized, competitive component to the sport, let alone a pro circuit and international events. Heck, I didn’t even know there was a league night! My rounds consisted of very casual play where I was completely content with throwing a drive maybe 250 ft on a good day. Nothing wrong with that, but then I got introduced to tournament play in 2012. Since then, I have learned so much more about disc golf that it has increased my enjoyment of the game, especially the casual rounds, by no less than 100%. From playing with others in a competitive atmosphere I’m learning proper form, how discs are supposed to fly, and probably most importantly – I’m meeting some amazing people!!! So, when I get asked how long I’ve played, I say, “almost ten years,” but then I add, “Well, I only really started playing a couple of years ago.” See you on tour!
