What a start to the Season

The weather held, the baskets were permanent for the first time, the score port was rocking, lead changes and tag battles raged, penally strokes changed who finished in the top three, an Ace on Hole #2, this event had it all.

The Sackville Showdown took place this past weekend with representatives from every province and course.  The results can be found at  By clicking this RESULTS.

The results do not tell the whole story.

In the Jr. Division ( under 18) Joe Tower who has come to every event in Sackville and has finished last every year…..This year he came back found his groove and took home the 1st place Trophy  The battle for second and third had just as much drama, Tyson and Alex tied on the first round and tied on the second round, and Tyson managed a one stroke better round than Alex in the third and final round but then added his scorecard incorrectly and passed it in.  2 stroke penalty was assessed leaving Tyson in 3rd place to Alex.  (you see kids Math is important…)

The AM1 Division saw several position and lead card changes With lots of good play and some bad kicks, Sackville is an unforgiving course.  The first round saw the early leader get an Ace on hole #2 in the woods, this hole has way more 4’s than 2’s, so an Ace is such sweet run at the basket placement.  The Third and final round came down to a few players posting 55’s (even par) to retake the #1 spot for Chris “Good Karma” Meany, and jumping 5 spots form the chase card to 2nd Was Dan MacQueen.  Great rounds gentleman, and yes I use that term loosely…:)

The Women had a new face and she may be a force to recon with in a few months.  Carolyn had great power and control and with some instruction and practice she will continue to improve.  Jen improved by 13 strokes over last years Sackville tournament but it was not enough to catch Danielle who improved by 14 strokes!  well done to all the women.

AM2 had its share of battles as well, Steve Smith held a slim lead for the first 2 rounds holding off Zack Stokes, Steve Edwards, and Naill McGinty.  With a huge 57 round Zach Stokes stole the win away in the last round.

GrandMasters is the new division we saw develop this year Bruce took down the division, their are a few more eligible players that have their eyes on Bruce’s trophy so this division is going to get exciting to watch.

The Pro Division saw some new faces this year making the jump from AM1 to Open, and Sandy SandBagger Gallant even managed a top card appearance, Sunday was not kind to Sandy in his first stint at pro…..Although he was VERY happy to win the Drunk Doubles Championships this year solo.  Well done, but also a possible cause of  Sunday’s 804 rated +10.

Ben Smith was as consistent as he usually is, 54, 54, 54 (-1) rounds, and Duncan Dixon was his usual Hot Round, Mediocre round, Hot round self, 52, 57, 53 -3, +2, -2, for a tie.  Dixon missed a short 15 footer on 18 to card the third round 53. During the play off hole Ben played the same forehand Buzz shot off the tee that had been so disastrous just minutes before to exactly the same results leaving himself with a 50ft putt.  Duncan played a tighter line and landed 8ft from the pin for the easy 2.  Ben made a great putt but missed just inches left to give Dixon the Win.

Congratulations to all of our players!
